A Whole New World
This photo represents the change in Baba's social status when he moves from Kabul to Afghanistan. In Kabul, Baba lived in a bubble, represented by the softball wall border, and was the tallest tree in the land. However, when Baba moved to America, or outside of the bubble, he felt smaller and less important in a country filled with millions of rich, successful, and influential figures, as shown by the much bigger trees in the background. In addition, the people in America had different mindsets and cultural beliefs than Baba, similar to how the trees in the background are different types of trees than the tree representing Baba, and so he never truly fit in.

I really liked your take on the change Amir and Baba went through when they moved to the US. Great metaphor.
ReplyDeleteYour metaphor is really good! I saw him living in a sort of bubble, as well, and when he gets to America, he becomes a much smaller tree.
ReplyDeleteClever image! I think you could also talk about how the wall is also a divide in terms of (cultural) ideals, and how Baba (even after moving to America) still strives to embody Afghan culture.
ReplyDeleteI think that your idea is so creative! It is a very solid metaphor and makes a lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a really good idea, and all of the ideas make sense from looking at the photo. I think that you guys did a really good job of using the softball fence in a metaphorical way. The fence could also represent Amir's fear, preventing him from entering his past or talking about it.
ReplyDeleteI think this metaphor is great and you put very insightful thinking into it. However, I don't believe that Baba "never fit in", he's just a very outspoken figure.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a great metaphor for the separation in Afghanistan between the rich and the poor. This bubble could also represent Assef because he has always been full of hate, however, he may be able to find more joy in his life if he can move beyond his bubble of violence.
ReplyDeleteI like how you focused on the dichotomy between life in Afghanistan and life in America and put it into Baba's perspective.
ReplyDeleteI like how you used all the elements in the picture to explain and describe the change in Baba's life after coming to America.
