Baba Holding Back the Corruption

This image relates to when Baba saves the young woman from the Russian soldier on the way to Pakistan. When they're stopped at a checkpoint by a Russian soldier, he demands that the woman spends a night with him in exchange for passage. Baba acts as a fence when he risks his life by refusing and standing in front of the soldiers gun. In doing this, he protects the innocent woman like the fence separates the grass from the generator. The generator represents how the war has corrupted the land, which was once as innocent as the woman. When Baba demands that the man have dignity, he is trying to protect whats left that is pure, like the grass.

  1. Interesting idea! How very insightful of you to think of this metaphor. Maybe the danger to Baba posed by the Russian soldier could be some break in the fence, or the electricity from the generator that could fry the fence.

  2. I think you had an insightful idea with Baba as a physical barrier between the soldier and the girl. The generator could pose as a threat to the fence since the fence is metal and conducts electricity, which exemplifies the threat of the gun to Baba.

  3. I really like how you used the idea of the generator to represent something bad or corrupt, because it shows how modernization can be harmful to the environment. I think the fact that the fence is attached to a strong stone foundation shows how Baba refuses to move and is stubborn in his ideas.

  4. Interesting metaphor: I really like how this shows Baba risking his life for the greater good. You could also talk about how the concrete that the fence is rooted in could represent Baba's past and his morals that keep him grounded during this terrifying encounter.
