Connection of Amir and Farid
The relationship between the lighter and the candle is similar to the relationship between Farid and Amir. The candle represents Amir because he needs the help of Farid, the lighter, to succeed. Without the lighter, the candle could not start and keep a flame. The lighter supplies the candle with the flame it needs to burn. Additionally, this shows that the candle can later survive without the candle. This is reminiscent of Farid and Amir once Farid leaves Sohrab and Amir in Islamabad. The pair are still able to survive without the help of Farid. Lastly, this image shows the similarities and connections between two extremely different things. These two objects need each other, much like how Farid and Amir need each other. Amir is able to get help in traveling and hospitalization while Farid is exposed to his judgmental mindset and is rewarded monetarily in the end.

I really like how you connected Amir and Farid's need of each other to a candle and fire for them to grow.
ReplyDeleteI think that this portrays Farid and Amir's relationship really well and I love the creativity that went into your image.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about how Amir and Farid rely on each other before, and I like how you connected that to how a candle and lighter support each other. I think the image could also represent Amir's relationship with Sohrab, except Amir is the lighter and Sohrab is the candle. Like the lighter, Amir helps Sohrab out of his troubled past and helps ignite him back into the person he used to be. Though at the end of chapter 24 Sohrab is in an even worse place than before, Amir does foster that relationship with Sohrab in previous chapters and help him open up.
ReplyDeleteI love the depiction of a relationship using a candle, as fire is usually a destructive force, but in this case you use it to demonstrate a relationship that thrives. The disconnect between the two objects but the connection they share is a great idea that I love, as a candle and a lighter are so different but they are a bit useless without the other.
ReplyDeleteI really love this, poetic metaphor! Really good choice for a metaphor! And it brings out the theme of relationships and bonds in the book! Maybe you can also talk about how Amir needed his ¨light" to grow as a more helpful human being.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you talk about the differences of the flame and candle are so different but need each other to get the job done, just like how Amir and Farid need each other. While talking about differences, in addition to differences in what they need, you can contrast how Amir and Farid are so different. Amir had a very different life growing up than Farid did and their interactions can be shown as Farid being the flame that illuminates Amir's point of view.
