This tree symbolizes the importance of family in the Kite Runner. Trees have deep roots that stabilize them through even the worst of storms. It keeps them rooted in reality and helps them feel safe. However, trees need to be cared for in order to survive and thrive. If you do not make sure to tend to them and give them the nutrients they need, they will die. Amir must make sure to nurture his relationship with Baba, Soraya, and his new family in America. The tallest trees stand out in a landscape, showing how family can sometimes be the only thing one can look forward to. When Amir returns to Afghanistan, he constantly thinks about how his actions impact Soraya and searches for Sohrab because he is Hassan's child. The branches of the tree also demonstrate how family extends beyond just blood. Baba and Rahim Khan are like brothers and Rahim Khan is like Amir's second father. Amir looks at Rahim Khan like he is family and respects him like he is his father. Additionally, Amir and Hassan grow up like brothers even when they don't know they are really related.
You guys have really insightful connections that accurately portrayed Amir's situation. I also love the imagery you used, really good job!
ReplyDeleteI like how you connect the tree to family and how the branches show that family extends beyond just blood. I think that was the perfect way to connect Rahim Khan into the image. You could also connect this image to Amir branching out and becoming more brave with his trip to Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your metaphor of the tree representing the significance of family. I like how you bring up that Amir thinks of Soraya in Afghanistan and connect it to your metaphor.
ReplyDeleteWow, you hit on a lot of different nuances about family that really added to the complexity of your metaphor. Another way that you could have looked at this would be that the roots are the family and that supports one's growth upwards. Without the roots system, an individual would lack stability and would ultimately fall.
ReplyDeleteI liked the way that you said the branches show that the family extends beyond just blood, good connection!
ReplyDeleteI think that your stance on family is very interesting and developed! Do you think that trees clashing over sunlight and ground space can represent different relationships clashing over each other?
