Life Calendar

My eyes sit paralyzed behind a glowing blue gloss as I stare at the screen
The video paused
I am speechless

It’s called a “life calendar”
One box for every week
Of a centenary life
Sitting right in front of you
On an innocent white piece of paper
Staring you right in the face

I can’t control my hand
To press the play button
I instead sit frozen in the blue glow

I think back to all the times
I said “no thank you”
Because I was too lazy to try something new

I think back to all the times
I sat in my room and watched videos
Instead of playing outside with friends

I think back to all the times
I sat in the corner of the room
Instead of making new memories

I think back to the time
I sat staring at the life calendar
As it stared back at me harder

The now digitized and simplified version
Of my lifelong emotional rollercoaster

As I reluctantly I cross off my calendar’s 757th box
I’m more ready
To take on the day
Than ever before

  1. I really like how you personified alot of what people think about. We always put thing back and back and back and then our time is done. It was very creative making it a calander good work.

  2. I really like the repetition used for the first line of each stanza that says "I think back to all the times". It really shows how you are looking back on your life and reflecting on your choices. I really enjoy the line "Staring you right in the face" because it shows how you are almost confronting yourself through this calendar about your life so far and previous decisions.

  3. I find this poem very relatable as our generation is very consumed in technology that we forget to live our life. Your use of repetition really adds to the poem and shows the regret, but also how you overcome that by living. I also had never heard of a life calendar before so that was cool!
