The Pomegranate Tree
This picture represents the importance of what happens at the pomegranate tree. Amir's tantrum and guilt are all focused on the ball and chain. They are out of control, unwieldy, and unpredictable as to how much damage will be done to Hassan. All of the people behind the man with the ball and chain represent Amir's different struggles from growing up. The desire to be Baba's favorite along with other struggles he's dealt with are supporting him and encouraging him to attack Hassan so that he may feel better. The man on the far right also happens to represent Amir. He is looking onto the battle from the outside and sees what injustice and cruelty are happening, yet he does not do anything about it. He lets himself attack Hassan, even though he knows it is wrong. The slight halo emanating from Hassan represents how he is still pure an no less valiant than before, even though he has faced some very dangerous things.
