Best

I have learned through experience
That people who say they are on my side
Who want the best for me
Who will try their best to help me
Succeed
Aren’t the best
See
I do my best
Some bests aren’t as good as other bests, though
Because everyone is always trying
To best
Everyone
Else

So maybe we should forget them
Forget their predetermined path to a facade of
Success
Good, best, better, whatever
Take it on our own time

Forget ourselves in the process
Good
I could use a new me, anyways

You’ll fail, they’d say
You’ll never make it that way
Well maybe
It’s best that way

  1. This is such a good poem. The use of enjambment as well as a few end-stopped lines really emphasized the point you were trying to make. My favorite line was 'I could use a new me, anyways', that really stood out to me.

I really like these lines. They show a deeper meaning and emphasis on your idea.

  3. I like the repetition and double meanings of "best" used throughout: "You’ll never make it that way / Well maybe / It’s best that way".
