My warmest clothes layered
my skin just like the
sheets of ice I stare at.
I see waves of fog
roll from beneath my lips
From the Alaskan air
Or the chill of anticipation
Surrounded by frost
Everything is blue
Blue sky, marred only by the passing clouds
Blue water, so clear it reveals the truth
Blue ice, stretching for miles
I see in blue
First the sound echoes from within
Loud and sharp
Deep and clear
Fissures created
Fracturing my distorted view
So the water beneath is reflected in my eyes
Then comes the crash
One giant cascade
Breaking away
Just like that
Gone
Have you ever seen something
So shocking?
So moving?
My breath was lost with the ice
But when the wave came
To rock the steady surface beneath us
It was a reminder
Of the world we are losing

I really like your use of imagery and your word choice is really strong. Great job!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite line was about how the fissures were created I thought that added a lot of depth to your poem.
ReplyDeleteI think this poem has a relevant message and I liked the use of imagery to describe this moment. It is so cool how you were able to witness this too!
ReplyDeleteI like how you chose a topic that is very relevant to you. Strong word choice and imagery.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite aspect of your poem is how you used the repetition of blue to paint a picture. My favorite line has to be the end where you give the poem some weight and meaning.
