Memories

The elegant ring
wraps around
my finger

Petals like
File cabinets.
Delicately crafted,
they store decades
Of Love, Laughter,
Difficult times

Given to my mother by her aunt,
These petals hold
Precious memories.

The stem that takes roots
Links me to my mother.
To a version I never knew.

From there leaves arise.
Those that connect me to family.
Protruding, they are reminders
Of new beginnings.
Hope.

Climbing higher, thorns that
Jab and jar,
Left Weak and wounded
From painful memories.

Protected and sacred,
A delicate ring.

  2. I liked the alliteration when you said "jab and jar" and "weak and wounded." I liked the second to last line because it shows your emotions towards the flower. Something that stands out is the phrasing because it adds to the delicate tone.

  4. I really like this poem and the extended metaphor! It all ties together really well, and the message it contains is beautiful.
