Pitter Patter
Pitter patter
The rain falls.
Pitter patter
The sound replaces
The silence in the halls.
It has felt like ages
Since I heard someone’s voice
Since I laughed with glee
Since I even went outside,
But my sadness has isolated me.
It wasn’t really my choice.
The drops fly through the open window.
They land on my chest.
I fake a faint smile,
But I feel nothing.
I did my best.
I know that I need to get out of my house
That I need to love
That I need to feel
That I need to experience,
But I constantly feel like I’m battling against my mind.
Maybe I’m just being delirious.
I tell myself I am better off in this house.
This room protects my mind,
But it also pains my heart.
I know I am not living,
And I know that I need to start.
Pitter patter
The rain falls on my pack.
Pitter patter
I dart towards a new life,
Never looking back.

I really like the repetition in this poem, and the metaphors you use to create a picture of this world and the box that has been built around the character. My favorite line is "I did my best" because it is very relatable and feels very real.
ReplyDeleteI like the use of poetic devices to emphasize the meaning of the poem and I also really agree with the line "But I constantly feel like I’m battling against my mind" because it is something that we all have to do sometimes and makes the poem relatable.
