Unloved / Loved

Unloved/ Loved

I am unloved
It’s impossible for me to even consider
You love me just as much as my sisters
Because I can tell by the way you talk to me
That I just disappoint you
I will never believe
That I can be just as happy as Emma or just as cute as Cara
I know
I am useless as a daughter, sister, friend
I lie to myself when I think
That I have a joyful smile and a gentle touch
And every time I look in the mirror I tell myself
My presence is a burden
And no one believes
I am so full of life and wonder
And I am convinced that
I’m empty as a person
Anything you say won’t make me believe
That I am loved, deserving of love, and have so much love to give
My life supports the fact
That I only bring issues to other’s lives
I know that it’s a lie when I tell myself
I am loved

(Now read bottom up)

  1. I love your poem so much it seems so simple at first but this simplicity makes it work beautifully and there's a level of thought and complexity put into this piece that I could never achieve, I loved it.

  2. I love how you incorporated the "read bottom up" in your poem! This poem is very well written and I found it so interesting to read it normally and then reverse. I also really like the message and meaning of this poem and how you describe this feeling with imagery.

  4. I love this poem, it sounds like it would make a great performance poem. My favorite line of this poem is,"I am so full of life and wonder
and I am convinced that I’m empty as a person" because of the contrast.

  5. The simplicity of the poem definitely conveys your message better than anything complicated. Something I noticed and felt really ties the poem together is
    "My presence is a burden / / / / I'm empty as a person".

  6. This is so cool how you can read it both ways! I also love the main message of your poem, and how it's really important to love yourself no matter what. My favorite line is "It's impossible for me to even consider / I am unloved" (written backwards).
