What is love?

Love, what really is it?
Is it the overpowering feeling of affection?
Is it the care you give to someone?
Is it the friendship that has lasted more than 10 years?

Love is when your teacher asks how you’re doing.
Love is when your mom does your laundry without you even asking.
Love is your best friend checking in, just to see how you’re doing.
Love is when your boyfriend runs 4 miles to get Chick-fil-a for you.

Love is forgiveness.
Love is sadness.
Love is crying your eyes out until they’re puffy.
Love is getting so mad you break the door.

When I was young,
Love was what love shown in Disney movies,
Prince and princess,
Ooh, la, la, how romantic?

Years pass,
Love is the when your dad makes you breakfast.
Dad and daughter,
Having a connection and being able to love.

What really is love?
I ask myself every day.
Is it when someone says, I love you?

Is it when someone truly cares for you?

  1. I really like your word choice and diction. The part where you say "Ooh, la, la, how romantic?" shows what you thought love was when you were a child. But, throughout the poem you repeatedly ask yourself "what really is love?", showing that it is deeper than what you thought as a child.

  2. I really enjoyed your lines about how love is what is shown in movies and that is what most people cling to the idea of instead of really truly finding out what love is though acknowledgement of others tasks and emotions.

  3. I really enjoyed the throw back that you had with Disney movies. As many of us can relate to that. The deep meaning was straight forward ad really easy to understand. Also like the memories that you had with your family how love showed there for you.
