Perfect Little Bud

Poem #22 that inspires me:
“If you want to be reborn, let yourself die”

The Perfect Little Bud

The Perfect Little Bud
Born new and oblivious
The sun and soil and water
Seeping into the juicy stem, reaching into its petal’s veins
The perfect new Bud
Soaking up the sun and water
Becoming more and more
Full, full of life with a smile just as full
The Bud grows
Inch by inch
The Bud isn’t growing alone
She is joined by influence, temptation
The veins in its petals becoming infested
With a dark color
In extreme contrast with its
Pale pink petals
The water is black and the sun is covered by clouds
The Bud is deceived by what the water could give it
And soaks it right up
The Perfect Little Bud gave in
Oh how the Perfect Little Bud felt like an
Awful, rotten Bud
Oh how the Perfect Little Bud no longer felt like a Bud at all
Weeping and wilting
Its juicy stem, weak beneath it
No longer supporting it
Fractured, crippled
Like the Bud’s smile
She wept over her falling petals
That didn’t even get the chance to bloom yet
She wept over her wilted leaves
Just as she started to become one with the Earth
The Sun broke the clouds, the darkness
Which penetrated both his and her sweetness
The black water retreated along with the clouds
The Bud felt the warm sun kissing her neck
Her petals slowly started to unlock
Her stem began to rise as the new water rushed up her like she had a spine being straightened
Her smile became true again
The Sun smiled down at her
Giving her the warmest, truest hug
Enveloping her in new life
Which is when she realized
If she hadn’t given in, she would’ve never felt the sun the way she did now
And the Perfect Little Bud was
Perfect Again

  1. I like how you used a plant and its journey to represent how the line "If you want to be reborn, let yourself die." I think it is an interesting representation of the yin yang and balance elements in Taoism.
