Steady Rainfall of Thoughts

70,000.
we think up to 70,000 thoughts a day,
that average down to about 40 thoughts
per minute.

70,000 thoughts daily rushing
through my brain like a river,
yet i'm fishing with an empty net
incapable of capturing just one.

just one drop of a thought to
spill onto a blank, empty page.
i've been through on average
800 thoughts by this time
struggling to find  the "right" words to
write.

fishing through my recent thoughts,
one was a particular catch.

you can't get anything done
when you think about everything.
too much control over your own
words keeps you silent. blank.
Tao de Ching tells me that by
"letting it go, it all gets done"

i tossed expectations far down
into my stream of thoughts,
it probably got lost in the currents.
i let my mind float about,
and found my thoughts raining
down like a never ending storm.

  1. I really appreciate the honesty in your poem, in your struggle in finding the right words to say. I have never related to anything more. However, you also come to a realization, that letting go and simply being/writing is the path you must follow. It's really elegant and accurately reflects the message of the Tao.

  2. Nice! I like the way that you compared your thoughts to a storm or water in general. I can really imagine the water when you describe it. Great idea

  3. I think that not being able to get anything done when you're thinking about everything is very important to understand. It's really cool to see your thought process in this poem and how you go from one idea to connect to the next.

  4. I love how I can follow your thought process on this. In fact, it even taught me about mine. The way you tie it all together is very cool and deeply thought-provoking, not to be cheesy hahaha. Love it!
