Watch Me as I Run (From You)

On the starting line
Never look behind you
Those who do find themselves
Trampled by those behind them
Go

On the finish line
Never look behind you
Every second counts
Looking behind you is just
another opportunity to
Become a poor second

To look behind you is weakness
Your mind is strong
Strength is pain escaping your body
Jealousy enters it through judgment
Envy is a harbor for pain
To look behind you on the starting line
Is synonymous with agony

  1. I really like the use of running as a metaphor for the race of life we find ourselves in. I think it really captures the pain/regret/envy we sometimes feel in the competition or when we see how others are doing.

  2. Your use of repetition in your poem is similar to the way poems in "The Tao" were structure. In your poem it works as an effective device for reinforcing your message.

  3. I think that the poem is really powerful in its use of repetition. The comparison between running and life is really powerful.

  4. I love how you incorporated your own passions with the Tao, and how you really just pulled yourself through with the use of running.
