Balance is the overarching force that guides our universe.
We may see the light should we look for it
But we must know that with all light there is also darkness.
Each side intertwined so carefully,
That to be without one is to be without everything.
The Tao is an unchangeable force.
To struggle against things you can not change
Is to look for a fight without being challenged.
You can not battle with the ocean,
Resist, and it will let you drown.
The tides push and pull endlessly
And standing still is harder than moving with it.
Nothing we lose is ever really lost,
Without sacrifice there yields no benefits.
Knowledge only comes when we realize we know nothing.
Experience is only gained when skill reaches its limits.
Strength is only gained when we are at our weakest.
Loss is the only way to gain everything.

I really like how you used metaphors (like the one about the ocean); it helps convey the meaning of your poem.
ReplyDeleteWhile I was reading your poem I got a great sense of what Taoism symbolizes and how we can incorporate it into our daily lives. I liked how you creatively defined Taoism using metaphors and imagery.
