Living Virtuously

The fibers of life which dictate your deed
The sibyl of life’s system suggests these:
In this hollow ataraxia veiling ubiquitous disarray,
The purest, freshest blood appears to be cray
The noblest phantasms are betrayed
The highest virtue wears the mask of the reverse
Seek its glory, despite appearing adverse

Life is but a memory’s forgotten tale
There’s only the inevitable and what it entails
Some aspire to drill a spiral to the super galaxy,
For true pleasure, release all desire with alacrity
Focus not on the clash of war’s berserk sabers,
Let sky’s amazing sound grace your labor
Live this way and pleasure you will beget

These principles, even little birds won’t forget

Note: In the show Sound of the Sky, the vehicle depicted above was the key instrument in stopping a major war in the show's post-apocalyptic civilization, even though it has a violent and aggressive appearance. This falls in line with how the poem and the Tao's teachings are about how the best virtues appear to be the opposite of what they actually are. Also all but four lines in the poem are references to various media.

  1. I really like how you connected a show you enjoy to your poem and the Tao. I found it interesting how virtues appear to be reverse. Good job!

  2. Even though I didn't know like half of the words you used in your poem I still highly appreciated it. I could never write a rhyming poem without sounding horrendously cheesy and you managed to execute it really well. "Life is but a memory’s forgotten tale" is a wonderful line.

  3. Good use of complex vocabulary and interesting spacing on the stanzas.
